School social workers act as a link between home, school, and the community. Teamed with teachers, administrators, and parents we act to promote students' academic and social success, helping to identify children's unmet physical and emotional needs interfering with their ability to learn and adjust to the school environment. We act as members of both the regular and special education teams, providing services which include:- Individual and group counseling including, peer relationships, family change, self-esteem, self-advocacy, academic difficulties, grief and loss, self-control and others
- Crisis prevention and intervention
- Conflict resolution and peer mediation
- New student groups
- Advocacy for students, parents, and the school system
- Collaboration with community agencies and organizations to meet students' needs Special education services defined in the IEP and participation of special education assessments
- Anger management skills focusing on problem solving and peaceful conflict resolution
- Resource information within the community
- Parent education and support
- Design and implement behavior management plans
