Fourth Grade Music

  • Fourth grade will be a very exciting year in music!  They will study music meter, improvisation, new melodic solfege pitches, new rhythmic notes and their values, and learn new folk dances. We will be busy. They will also learn about the families of instruments and how they are arranged to create bands and orchestras.  They will learn to make appropriate choices with tempo and dynamics.  They will continue to work on matching pitches while singing, and also blending two distinct tones together, to create harmony. Due to a changed allied schedule, 4th grade will not have a concert this year.

While your child is in music, I do grade his/her progress on several different music tasks.  In the middle and at the end of the year, each student will receive a report card from the Specialists (Art, Phy Ed, and Music.)   The General Music Portion of the report card will be in the form of a checklist of things that the students have been working on.  By viewing the checklist, you will be able to tell what your child does well on, and also on which things he/she needs to focus more attention on.  Hopefully, this checklist will be helpful to the students, parents and teachers.
